Nuvotech Releases Script Studio® Creative Writing Software For Mac & PC

August 28, 2017 (London, UK) – UK technology company Nuvotech today announced the release of Script Studio® creative writing software – an innovative Mac & Windows desktop application for screenwriters, playwrights and novelists.

Script Studio - Creative Writing Software

Nuvotech has given its popular script and story development app Movie Outline a complete facelift, recoded the application from the ground up and rebranded it as Script Studio. This latest incarnation, which is now a serious contender for industry leader Final Draft, has a fresh, modern user-interface that is identical on Mac and Windows operating systems and supports the latest technologies such as Retina / HiDPI and Windows Touch Screen gestures.

“This is our biggest upgrade ever and we’ve really gone to town”, said Dan Bronzite, CEO, produced screenwriter and head developer. “Our primary objective is to streamline the writing process, giving writers both the space to create and the tools they need to effectively plan, structure, format and develop their screenplay.” Some of the most notable additions to Script Studio are a dedicated novel mode, night mode, WYSIWYG Dual Dialogue that you can edit in situ, a global Scratch Pad, a bespoke Courier Nuvo font designed for writing screenplays, and improved import and export functionality that handles Final Draft 10 and Fountain files.”

Support For International Users

Perhaps the most crucial advancement is Script Studio’s newly implemented support for Unicode and diacritics, something which competitors Final Draft and Movie Magic have not provided to date. Script Studio also boasts the addition of over 100 international dictionaries and thesauri and the ability to write your script in right-to-left languages such as Hebrew, Arabic, Persian scripts and Urdu.

“Supporting the international writer was one of our key goals” remarks Nuvotech’s Product Manager Evelyne Kennedy. “While we understand that North America and Hollywood in particular is a key hotspot for screenwriting, there are many scriptwriting communities and production hubs all over the world, Bollywood being a prime example, and we wanted to ensure that Script Studio was accessible to those regions and users.”

Product Roadmap

When discussing the future of Script Studio, Evelyne Kennedy kept her cards close to her chest but hinted on an exciting few years ahead for users of their screenwriting software. She also noted the emerging importance of mobile screenwriting and cloud connectivity and confirmed that the iOS version is in active development.

Nuvotech is proud to Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Movie Outline Screenwriting Software

Learn more about this amazing charity!

It's amazing how time flies and this spring marks 10 years since the launch of Movie Outline. The program has come a long way since its first incarnation and here's a brief history...

How It All Began...

In 2003, produced Brit screenwriter/director Dan Bronzite was looking for software to help him outline his next spec — a teen horror called DO OR DIE. But he didn't find anything suitable...so he decided to roll up his sleeves and create a program himself. After a lot of hard work and late nights coding he finally launched Movie Outline in the spring of 2004 and the rest is history. He even wrote DO OR DIE using his own app and later sold it to Qwerty Films in the UK.

All Grown Up!

Since then the product has developed into a full-fledged screenwriting software application that allows you to plan your cinematic structure, develop characters and format your screenplay to industry standard scene by scene, providing all the tools all you need.. in a single package.

Thank You To Our Loyal Customers

Through the years we have been blessed by a loyal following and community of screenwriters (novice and professional) who have spread the positive word about Movie Outline and who are always keen to provide us with their constructive feedback. Thank you all for your support!

"The software allows you to build your story and script beat by beat, and this ability to compare your own narrative with scene-by-scene outlines & analyses of box office hits is a key feature of its innovative design."

  • Pretty Woman
  • Scream
  • Seven
  • Spider-Man

About Reference Plugins

Different movie genres require different amounts of steps. Dramas are typically around 35-40 steps because they usually have longer scenes than Thrillers, Comedies and Action and Adventure movies which are normally around 45 steps with more action and less dialogue. To help plan your project, Movie Outline allows you to simultaneously refer to produced feature film outlines and gauge the progress of your own story in contrast to the most successful Hollywood movies. By comparing your own character arcs, escalating conflicts, plot points and three act structure with the pros, you'll be able to amend mistakes in your own pacing and successfully produce a well-structured screen story!

*Please Note: Plugins are scene-by-scene outlines & analyses of movies but do not contain the original screenplays.

Price & Availability

New plugins can only be purchased via Movie Outline 3's integrated purchase wizard which allows you to buy securely from within the application and then have your plugins automatically downloaded and installed into your Reference Library.

With Version 3.1 writers now have even more document sharing options available that include the ability to open and automatically reformat PDF files, import to and from Final Draft 8’s new XML file format (.fdx) , and export to scheduling format (.sex) that can be opened by most of the leading production management programs such as Movie Magic™ and Gorilla. Movie Outline Software launches Hollywood Script Express

23 April, 2009 -- Movie Outline Software is pleased to announce the launch of their new script submission and intellectual property registration service that provides screenwriters with professional printing, binding and shipping from their web browser.

Online Script Submission

Hollywood Script Express offers scriptwriters, wherever they are in the world, the ability to upload a screenplay and have it professionally printed and bound to industry standards from one of their Los Angeles Printing Partners and shipped the same day by FedEx or hand delivered by courier. This facility especially benefits out-of-state and overseas screenwriters who normally spend a great deal of money on shipping and cannot easily present their documents in Hollywood's industry-specific format.

"As a writer based in London, this always proved an obstacle for me when I needed to send a script to Hollywood." explains Dan Bronzite, CEO of Movie Outline Software. "First I had to order the US letter size paper (we use A4 in the UK) pre-three-holed-punched (we have two or four hole punches) and brass brads (we use different types) and then ship my script via an international courier which would cost a fortune. With HSX we have streamlined the entire process so that writers can submit their scripts to agents, producers, studios and contests at the click of a button."

Submission Tools & Tracking

Once you have created an account with Hollywood Script Express, you can customize your calendar, track submissions, manage contacts, log responses, view graphical statistics and collate feedback. All of your script management tools are conveniently centralized into a single online interface that allows you to focus on the creative writing process and not the technicalities of the business. Additional screenwriter specific services will soon be available to Hollywood Script Express clients including coverage and proof-reading.

Intellectual Property Registration

Hollywood Script Express' intellectual property registration service assists in establishing proof of your work's completion date by providing a digital timestamp for your uploaded script and a documented record of your claim to authorship. Your encrypted file is stored securely for five years with the option to renew and you will receive a Registration Certificate and Unique Registration number.

Movie Outline Software Releases Movie Outline 3.0

14 October, 2007 -- Movie Outline Software is pleased to announce the release of Movie Outline 3.0, an innovative screenplay development application for step-outlining, character development and screenplay formatting.

Product Development Strategy

"Our intention right from the beginning of our development cycle was to take as much time as necessary to create a powerful application that fulfilled the screenwriter's needs on every level." said Daniel Bronzite, CEO of Movie Outline Software. "In its first incarnation, Movie Outline was simply a step-outliner that enabled the writer to plan their story by combining scenes into key events. With the release of version 2.0 we took a major step forward by adding the ability to structure your story into color-coded Acts. Now with version 3.0 you can create character profiles and arcs, organize your story using virtual drag and drop index cards and write a full screenplay which is automatically formatted to the industry standard layout as you type. It really is the ultimate screenwriter's tool."

Product Launch

Movie Outline 3.0 will be officially launched at the Screenwriting Expo in Los Angeles which will be taking place at the Marriott and Renaissance Hotels, October 25-28 2007.

Movie Outline Software Expands Digitial Distribution with Protocall Technologies

16 November, 2005 -- Movie Outline Software has just launched its popular screenwriting software Movie Outline on Protocall Technologies' SoftwareToGo network, which will expand its digital distribution channel through CompUSA, TigerDirect and Amazon, and enable point of sale product access through in store On-Demand technology.

SoftwareToGo Distribution

The SoftwareToGo system is a new approach to selling software, allowing customers to review software features and to then purchase shrink-wrapped software directly from a software display and delivery kiosk within the CompUSA and TigerDirect store. SoftwareToGo allows retailers to offer thousands of software titles for sale in a 15 sq. ft. area that would otherwise take up 5,000 sq. ft. of retail selling space.

"Although we also manufacture and distribute our own physical product, we have realized for a long time that digital distribution and on-demand technology was the way forward," says Daniel Bronzite, CEO of Movie Outline Software. "Our priority is giving potential customers as much access as possible to our software and SoftwareToGo will do this, adding another channel to our current distribution programme of both physical and digital sales through our website and reseller network."

As well as in store sales, SoftwareToGo gives TigerDirect a real-time on-demand software production capability through its website, enabling the company to offer 24-hour shipment for software orders. From the TigerDirect website, orders are transmitted electronically to the SoftwareToGo production units, which produce the software CDs complete with original manufacturer's full-color packaging, certificate of authenticity and unique user ID. The orders are shipped same-day by Protocall Technologies directly to TigerDirect's customers.

Your structure is divided into five main sections: Prologue, Act I, Act II, Act III and Denouement, and within Act II there are two Turning Points and the story's Mid-Point. Each stage has its own popup window explaining what it represents and what should be happening in your story at that point.

You can customize the colors for each stage and adjust the scene start points to reflect the structure of your own story, however the Reference Plugin structure is independent of your own in order to help you visually gauge the progress of your story in comparison to your s elected movie outline.

With a single click you can expand and collapse the entire outline or individual scenes to reveal or hide scene information, adjust the displayed font, text size and window size to suit your needs and all your settings will automatically be saved for the next time you launch Movie Outline and PowerView.

SmartSearch enables you to keep track of a character, story development, plot device, keyword or phrase through your entire outline in a practical, visual manner.

Simply enter the character name or word you wish to track, such as "John" or "gun", in the SmartSearch window, or select a word in the main outline screen and choose SmartSearch from the new right-click Contextual Menu, and you will instantly see a small blue arrow icon appear beside the title of every scene that includes this text, and the line that contains the searched word will be highlighted in red.

You can also independently track words in your currently loaded Reference Outline and both user and reference words will be stored in memory each time you access PowerView.

HTML EXPORT & INTEGRATED VIEWER

As well as being able to print and export your outlines to plain text files, rich text files and PDF documents, Movie Outline 2.0 now enables you to export your outline with the current PowerView structure colors to an HTML web page and then view it via an integrated HTML Viewer.

Movie Outline Software Releases Movie Outline 1.0

5 March, 2004 -- Movie Outline Software is pleased to announce the release of Movie Outline 1.0, Screenplay Outlining Software for both the Amateur and Professional Screenwriter.

What is Movie Outline?

Movie Outline is an innovative step-outlining application allowing screenwriters to plan the structure of their screen story before writing the screenplay. It enables simple story planning with flexible scene reorganization and simultaneous reference to successful Hollywood movies. By streamlining the creation process of the entire outline structure, Movie Outline gives the screenwriter the space to think while constructing their story.

How can Movie Outline help me?

Many novice screenwriters make the mistake of jumping into a full screenplay before properly preparing their story and cinematic structure. This often results in many unnecessary rewrites, unfocused themes, flawed character arcs and plots that lose direction. That's why Movie Outline was conceived - to take the complexity out of the outlining process and give you the space to think and plan your script scene by scene while simultaneously being able to compare your own story pacing with outlines and analyses of successful movies.

Movie Outline's unique Reference Outline feature gives the Screenwriter the added advantage of assessing their own structure and story pacing in comparison to successful movies in the same genre. By comparing the development of your own character arcs, escalating conflicts, plot turning points and three act structure with the pros, you will be able to amend mistakes in your own narrative pacing and produce a well-structured screen story.

What do the Pros think?

"I've tried various other story planning software but none of them did the trick. Mainly because they weren't designed specifically for the screenwriting process and it felt as if they were constructed by mathematicians with over-complicated unuser-friendly interfaces that only added to the clutter of my mind. All I wanted was a simple way to plan my story structure and organize my creative thoughts. Movie Outline was the solution."
Daniel Bronzite, Screenwriter - Long Time Dead
